So I've never really designed an Arcade Fire poster before, but after sitting about 10 feet away from Wes while he designed about 30 of them, listening to and watching the band play, and really getting down into the nooks and crannies of the stories and themes of their new record, I felt ready to dive into it after being asked by the band to design a poster for their October 2010 Berkeley shows. One of the things I'd noticed during their live shows were the patches on Win's shirts. While I could never read them or see the details from the crowd, they instantly reminded me of my short-lived stint as a Cub Scout. I pretty much quit after the first day cause I thought it was stupid, but I was always into the patches. Along with patches from vacation spots and other organizations, patches are a solid representation...

This Friday, I'll be pulling back the curtains on my new monthly dance party at First Avenue's Record Room, home to Burlesque-approved dance nights of present day and yesteryear: Get Cryphy, Street Sounds, Honeymoon, and Let's Get Electric! Each second Friday, I'll be inviting a guest DJ to come spin with me. We'll be playing everything from hip hop to disco to dancehall to electro to Afro-funk to Miami Bass and all points inbetween. No gimmicks, no funny business, just big tunes, big bass, and big fun. My guest on Friday October 8th will be Jonathan Ackerman, a man who's made quite the name for himself around town, winning the hearts of dance-hungry music fiends at his own parties like Honeymoon and Hotel, plus as a guest at Wezz's monthly Bomp! party. Listen to / download the mix I put together for the party: EXTRA LARGE mix by Mike 2600...

Sometimes the first show of a new tour can be nerve-racking for both band & audience. Not this time. The crowd was buzzing with anticipation as the lights dimmed and Arcade Fire took the stage with force. So much action to take photos of! These are a few of my favorites I snapped over the night. Many more can be found on my flickr HERE
I'm having a really hard time coming up with the words to describe how much fun this show was. If Arcade Fire is coming to a town near you, do whatever it takes & go.

When most people think of a world-class artist having a gallery opening, fancy spots in New York or L.A. come to mind. Surely the coolest of cool show up in their awesome-pants. This one was a little different. Windom, MN. Population: 4490. Aaron's hometown, and no place more fitting. Hosted by The Remick Gallery at Cottonwood County Historical Society, the happily overwhelming amount work on display ranged from original pen & ink drawings, screen printed concert posters & art prints, skateboard graphics, album artwork, source material & more. Some came from as far as Japan (Hi Shingo!), while others merely walked down the street to see what that Horkey kid was up to these days... It was pretty amazing to see the amount of work all together in one space. I highly recommend taking a day trip from Minneapolis if you can. There really isn't a better time to drive...
