On Target

Posted by Burlesque of North America on January 07, 2011. 0 Comments

This past November, the folks over at Target approached me about designing some graphics to be placed in the front windows of their corporate headquarters in downtown Minneapolis. It was to be part of a large series of window displays all created by local artists and designers. Just last night, the window displays all went up! Stop by the corner of 11th and Lasalle to see my designs alongside some great work by Aesthetic Apparatus, Terrence Payne, and more! Click for larger view

Posted by Burlesque of North America on December 30, 2010. 0 Comments

Not a bad year at all. All in all I'd say it was pretty good. Prettaaaaaaaaay prettaaaaaaaaay good. We kicked things off with a gallery show at Lower Haters in San Francisco. Big shout out to Janice, Mikey, and the whole crew there for making it happen, plus all of our friends and fam who came through to check it out. Then we made this movie with our good friend Plain Ole Bill: We printed some Baroness tour posters for the talented John Baizley: Dre Day 2010 preparations: We found this shirt: Todd's Cold Heart hoodie hit the streets right in the dead of winter: We published and printed this diptych for our guys Broken Crow... And we published and printed a set of prints for Minneapolis-based artist Greg Gossel: Here's the video showing the printing process: With contributions from about 20 different DJs, we released the third installment in...

First Avenue at 40

photo: Daniel Corrigan Last night, Minneapolis' favorite nightclub celebrated its 40th birthday party with a celebration featuring performances from Har Mar Superstar, Dessa, Heiruspecs, and many more. At one point during the night, Mayor R.T. Rybak handed the Burlesque-designed and Larry Winship-crafted key to the city to First Avenue general manager Nate Kranz! You might recognize this key from our ""Let's Go Crazy"" Purple Rain dance party in the summer of 2009. In case you missed it, you should check out those photos on our BLOG!

EXTRA LARGE is tonight!

Posted by Burlesque of North America on November 12, 2010. 0 Comments

Twin Cities party people, tonight is the second episode of my new dance night experience, EXTRA LARGE. EXTRA LARGE features extended DJ sets from myself and one guest DJ and it goes down the second Friday of each month in the Record Room of historic First Avenue nightclub in beautiful downtown Minneapolis MN. Last month my guest was Jonathan Ackerman and we broke the crowd off with dancehall, classic hip hop, disco house, funk, boogie, and electro stompers. Tonight my guest is BK-One. Some of you might know BK from his decade-long stint DJing for rapper Brother Ali, or maybe you picked up his ""Radio do Canibal"" album, featuring BK's Brazilian-inspired hip hop beats and raps from Scarface, Freeway, Raekwon, Slug, Ali, and many more. His music and DJ sets are fueled by funk in all forms and he knows how to please a crowd with all flavors of music....
