You may remember a year ago when this happened... a loyal Minnesotan had Peter Bekke's awesome Minnesota Pride print / shirt design expertly recreated as a tattoo. Well... this just happened.

If you were here at CO Exhibitions for Cinco De Mayhem this past Saturday, you know what an incredible night it was. From the completely over-the-top piñata designs to the elation of the crowd all night long to the tissue paper and glitter-splattered aftermath, this was definitely one for the history books.
And if all that wasn't good enough, here's a little bonus: Thanks to everyone who paid to swing at the piñatas, we raised about $300 which we will be donating to Second Harvest Heartland! Thank you Twin Cities!
For those of you who missed it, we will now attempt to recreate the magic through photos and video, captured by our awesome gallery attendees.

We were pleased to discover the film Just Like Being There's arrival on Netflix! About two years ago, we began hearing about the production of a documentary film about the world of screenprinted concert posters. Directed by San Francisco's Scout Shannon, the film covers various aspects and branches of gig posters including relationships between poster artists and bands, design and printing process, Flatstock and the poster community, the movie poster renaissance, and of course ... FLIPPERS. Scout did a good job of capturing the essence of what we, as postermakers, do and why we love it so much. There are some great interviews with luminaries such as Daniel Danger, Jay Ryan, Michael Michael Motorcycle, Mike King, Tyler Stout, and our very own Wes Winship. Scout's crew filmed about 2-3 hours of interview and general BRLSQ shop footage in 2011, but most of it is now on the ol' cutting room...

While I was in Cambodia this past March, I became fascinated with the Khmer alphabet and the signs featuring those letters (See my earlier post about the signs and visuals I found in Cambodia and Laos). While shopping in Phnom Penh, I found a great book entitled Hand-Painted Signs of Kratie filled with photographs of signs found in Kratie, a small, rural city in Central Cambodia. Check out a few pics from the book and then order a copy! It makes a great companion to the popular Faythe Levine & Sam Macon Sign Painters book released last year.
