Report from Bandwagon

We're down here in Savannah for Bandwagon, a fantastic homegrown record and poster sale put together on the SCAD (Savannah College of Art & Design) campus. Day 1 was a smash - we met lots of poster and design enthusiasts, shared a booth with our esteemed colleague Aaron Draplin, chopped it up with Doug and Jason from Morning Breath, Martin from Cannonball Press, and Dan and Mike from Aesthetic Apparatus, grabbed some freebies from French Paper, dug for some records, and ate some BBQ. Looking forward to Day 2! Swing by and say hi if you're in town. Admission is FREE and the event runs from 10am - 4pm in the SCAD Student Center. A view into the glass cubicle housing all of the Draplin and Burlesque goodies. Jason from Morning Breath slangin' posters. This guy stopped by our booth. Not mad. Pretty pleased to have finally come up on...

Sketchbook for Owen & Keith

Posted by Burlesque of North America on February 29, 2012. 0 Comments

We were recently contacted by Austin-based art director Rob Story about designing and printing a poster for an event he's helping organize (more on that in the months to come). Rob told us about a project he started a few years ago. He began passing around a blank sketchbook to different artists to have them draw something for his two sons, Owen and Keith. It has blossomed into a stunning collection of art from some of today's greatest living illustrators and graphic artists - a truly incredible gift for his kids. It reminded me of Aye Jay's The Rest Is Up To You project. Here are some of the pages from the collection and here's a link to see the rest.

Burlesque at Bandwagon

We're packing our bags and getting ready to head down South to Savannah GA for a weekend at Bandwagon. If you live in the area and are a fan of posters, art, vinyl records, and cool shit in general, then there's really nowhere else for you to be! We'll have a booth set up next to such design luminaries as Aaron Draplin, Morning Breath, Aesthetic Apparatus, Boss Construction, Methane Studios, and many more. Aside from us slinging our posters, sticker packs, shirts, and other BRLSQ goodies, there will be presentations, SCAD student portfolio reviews, live musical performances, printing demonstrations, and tons of fun for all. Be sure to check out the wonderfully-designed and incredibly informative BANDWAGON GUIDE for all the info you could possibly need. That's Saturday & Sunday March 3 & 4th at Savannah College of Art & Design! See ya there!

photo by Phyllis Alcorn, 1989 John Alcorn was an American graphic artist and illustrator, working from the 1950s up until his death in 1992. A graduate of Cooper Union, a member of Pushpin Studios, and then an art director at CBS, Alcorn then went on to set up shop as a freelance illustrator, creating his most eyecatching and memorable work. Here are some of my favorites. To view much much more of his work, visit The Art of John Alcorn website. Editorial illustration, 1969 One of the dozens of book jackets Alcorn produced while working in Florence for the Italian publishing house Rizzoli. This cover is from 1973. 1972. 1973. 1976 Packaging design for Aramis Perfume, 1982 1989.
